A heatwave is forecasted to reach 36C in the UK today, while temperatures could plummet to 4C in a few days. The country is currently experiencing its third significant heatwave of the year, leading to heat health alerts in various regions. Although no official weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office yet, individuals are advised to stay hydrated due to the potential severe health risks associated with the hot weather.
Temperatures are anticipated to stay in the 30s throughout the upcoming week, particularly in the southern parts of the UK. However, relief from the scorching conditions seems imminent as weather models now suggest a significant drop in temperatures on the horizon.
The GFS weather model indicates that on July 19, some areas in Scotland will wake up to just 4C. By 6am, temperatures are expected to be below 10C for most UK regions, except for the east and southwest of England where they may reach double digits.
Later in the day, the weather maps show highs of only 14C in eastern England, with temperatures ranging from 10C to 12C across the UK. This marks a stark contrast from the recent days of 30C weather.
Similar cool temperatures are predicted for the following day. The GFS model suggests highs of 15C in southern areas around midday on July 12.
During this period, temperature anomaly maps depict the UK shaded in deep blue, indicating a significant drop in temperatures compared to the usual levels for this time of year. It is projected that 81 counties will experience single-digit temperatures on the morning of July 19.
The latest Met Office forecast states that today, temperatures are expected to peak at 36C in the south and 34C in the north. Tomorrow’s peak temperatures are likely to reach 35C in the south and 33C in the north, with a possibility of thunderstorms later in the day.
The Met Office mentioned that parts of Scotland may experience showery rain, potentially heavy and thundery later in the day. For tonight, any isolated thunderstorms are expected to ease, with mostly fine weather. Saturday’s forecast includes cloudy conditions in Scotland with showery rain, while other areas will be generally sunny. Breezy conditions are expected, with hotter temperatures in the west and cooler temperatures in the east.
