Britons have been alerted to the possibility of experiencing a heatwave in certain parts of the United Kingdom by the end of next week, according to forecasters. Southern regions could witness temperatures reaching 28C or higher by Thursday, as per the latest Met Office predictions.
The south and southeast of England are expected to endure the most significant temperature increases, although some areas may also experience thunderstorms and rain showers. Monday is anticipated to be dry and stable in many places, except for the North East where it might be cloudy and cooler with potential showers and thunderstorms.
Tuesday could bring additional rain from the coast, but meteorologist Honor Criswick from the Met Office mentioned that a high-pressure system spreading across the country will introduce warm and humid weather, leading to temperatures surpassing the seasonal average in select areas.
Criswick explained, “The southern and Southeastern regions will witness a gradual rise in temperatures throughout the week. High pressure is building up, and a warm air mass is moving in from continental Europe.”
She added, “While the possibility of a heatwave is still uncertain and subject to change, the weather is definitely turning warmer, potentially even hot, by the week’s end, particularly in the South East. Other regions will also experience warming, but with high humidity leading to cloud cover, rain, and showers.”
By Thursday, London could reach temperatures around 28C, nearing the high 20s. Looking ahead, the hot weather is expected to persist. The Met Office’s long-range forecast from June 29 to July 13 foresees above-average temperatures, occasional thunderstorms, and potentially unsettled conditions towards mid-July as high pressure shifts.
