The daughter of a teacher who was reportedly drugged and fatally assaulted has provided an update following the arrest of four family members. Sunil Sharma, a math educator from Melbourne, Australia, went missing during a trip to India in May to supervise property renovations. Authorities suspect foul play in his disappearance, believing he may have been murdered by his own brother amid a dispute over property.
Although the Australian man’s body has not been found, four individuals have been apprehended as part of the inquiry. Indian police allege that Sunil’s brother, Satish Sharma, spiked his drink with sleeping pills before attacking him with a baseball bat. They claim the victim’s body was disposed of in a canal, with Satish Sharma, Sunil’s sister-in-law, and nephew facing charges related to the incident.
Following the arrests, Sunil’s daughter took to social media to denounce her uncle’s actions and emphasize her father’s kindness and support for his family. She expressed hope for justice to be served in India for all involved in the heinous crime. The school where Sunil worked also offered condolences, highlighting his dedication and impact on the community.
Police in Amritsar alleged that the murder was motivated by greed and fraud, with the perpetrators attempting to cover up the crime by forging documents and selling property illicitly. Additional arrests have been made, and authorities are seeking two more suspects connected to the case.
The supportive messages from the educational institution and community reflect the respect and admiration Sunil garnered as a beloved teacher. The tragic event has left his family and colleagues devastated, mourning the loss of a cherished member of the school community.
