Dennis Haskins, famous for his role as principal Richard Belding in the popular TV show “Saved by the Bell,” has passed away at the age of 75, as confirmed by his agent Jay Schachter in a statement to CBC News. Schachter expressed deep sadness over the loss, highlighting Haskins’ affection for his fans and his amiable personality.
Known for his iconic role as the caring and humorous principal of Bayside High, Haskins gained widespread recognition for his catchphrase, “Hey, hey, hey, what is going on here?” He initially portrayed Mr. Belding on Disney Channel’s “Good Morning, Miss Bliss,” which later evolved into the NBC series “Saved by the Bell,” running from 1989 to 1993.
Haskins reprised his role in subsequent spin-offs like “Saved by the Bell: The New Class” and reunited with former cast members on a sketch with Jimmy Fallon in 2015. His colleagues, including Mario Lopez and Lark Voorhies, expressed their sorrow on social media, reminiscing about their cherished moments with him.
Beginning his onscreen journey with a guest appearance on “The Dukes of Hazzard” in 1979, Haskins enjoyed a successful television and film career spanning several decades. He also appeared in acclaimed productions such as “Mad Men,” “Hot in Cleveland,” “New Girl,” and Seth MacFarlane’s movie “A Million Ways to Die in the West.”
