“Safety Cordon Evacuates Manchester Housing Complex”

Students and faculty members residing in a Manchester city center housing complex were evacuated on Monday afternoon due to the establishment of a safety cordon around the premises. The emergency response teams, including police, paramedics, and firefighters, swiftly arrived at the Bridgewater Heights accommodation block on Great Marlborough Street around 1:15 pm following reports of a carbon monoxide leak.

Upon confirmation of the evacuation of residents, investigations commenced, with visible bottles of water placed outside the building while the pavement and entrance were secured off. Gas monitors were utilized to assess the structure, with operational teams on-site in collaboration with gas network operator Cadent. The incident attracted the presence of five fire engines and multiple police vehicles.

A spokesperson from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) stated that five fire engines were summoned to address a carbon monoxide leak in a high-rise building on Great Marlborough Street in Manchester. Firefighters employed breathing apparatus and gas monitors to inspect the property, working alongside Cadent Gas to ensure the safety of the surroundings and residents. Firefighters continued to remain on-site to monitor the situation.
