An 18-year-old pregnant woman has been paralyzed following a shooting incident during an armed robbery after arranging to meet someone via Snapchat. Angel Jones, who was 26 weeks pregnant at the time, suffered life-altering injuries that led to premature labor. Medical professionals are striving to prolong her pregnancy while uncertainty looms over her ability to walk in the future.
Reports indicate that Angel and her 19-year-old partner went to Greenway Avenue in Toledo, Ohio, to meet an individual they connected with online through Snapchat. During the encounter, a man in black attire approached their vehicle and attempted to rob them at gunpoint.
The suspect allegedly brandished a firearm, demanded money from the boyfriend, and a struggle ensued. The boyfriend recounted trying to fend off the weapon, leading to the gun discharging and hitting Angel.
Fortunately, the bullet narrowly missed the unborn child but caused severe damage to Angel, shattering her arm, penetrating her chest, and inflicting a serious spinal injury that left her paralyzed from the waist down. The gunshot also triggered premature labor at 26 weeks of pregnancy.
A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to aid in Angel’s recovery and future care. Her mother, Brandy Jones, shared details of the harrowing shooting incident, highlighting the bravery of Angel’s boyfriend in attempting to protect her during the robbery.
Describing the extent of Angel’s injuries, Brandy explained the trauma caused by the bullet and the resulting paralysis. She expressed Angel’s fears of paralysis and the added burden of caring for her newborn from a wheelchair.
Doctors are diligently working to manage Angel’s premature labor, administering medications to support the baby’s development. The infant, currently weighing only 1 pound, 9 ounces, is a testament to each day of continued gestation being a miraculous event.
Due to her pregnancy, Angel’s pain relief options are restricted, and she has faced challenges with eating since the incident. The GoFundMe aims to raise $50,000 (£37,290) to aid in enhancing Angel and her family’s quality of life, covering essential expenses and facilitating necessary modifications for accessibility and care.
