“Mystics Extend Home Win Streak, Crush Tempo 93-82”

Kiki Iriafen recorded 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Shakira Austin contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds as the Washington Mystics secured a 93-82 victory over the undermanned Toronto Tempo on Wednesday night, marking their eighth consecutive win on home court.

The defeat officially ended the Tempo’s playoff hopes in their debut season with a 10-25 record. Austin achieved her 16th double-double of the season, and Iriafen marked her 15th, as Washington dominated the rebounding battle, outclassing Toronto 43-27. Iriafen was efficient, shooting 8 of 12 from the field.

In support, Michaela Onyenwere netted 14 points, sinking four 3-pointers for the Mystics (21-14). Sonia Citron contributed 13 points and six assists. The Mystics excelled in the paint, scoring 38 points, narrowly missing their 12th consecutive game with 40 or more points inside.

Facing a depleted Toronto lineup without their top scorers, Kiki Rice led the Tempo with 19 points, while Aneesah Morrow added 13 points and eight rebounds in their 12th consecutive defeat as an expansion team.

Washington took control in the second quarter with a 12-0 run, establishing a 37-24 lead as Toronto struggled to find their shot. The Mystics continued their dominance, outscoring Toronto 22-9 in the second quarter to lead 47-33 at halftime. Onyenwere’s back-to-back three-pointers extended Washington’s lead to 60-42 in the third quarter.

Next up, the Tempo will host Portland on Friday, while the Mystics will remain at home to face Minnesota on the same day.
