“Monzo Launches Mobile Plans with Loyalty Discounts”

Monzo is set to introduce its inaugural mobile plans, offering annual discounts to its customers. The launch of Monzo Mobile is scheduled for this summer, with a waitlist opening today. The plans include options such as 10GB of UK data for £8 monthly, and a package featuring 30GB of UK data along with 10GB of European roaming for £12 per month.

Moreover, a plan will be available offering unlimited UK data and 25GB of global roaming for £20 per month. Exclusively accessible to Monzo customers, the mobile service will provide discounts based on customer loyalty. Customers can enjoy a 5% reduction on their monthly bill each year, accumulating to a maximum 30% discount off the retail price.

The plans will be designed for flexibility, allowing customers to switch or cancel at any time without incurring exit fees. Users will have the convenience of managing their mobile bills through the Monzo app, enabling them to monitor data usage and roaming activities.

Operating through an eSIM, which is a digital SIM card integrated into the device, the service will utilize the Virgin Media O2 network, ensuring more than 99% coverage across the UK. Duygu Yenidogan-Schmidt, General Manager for Core Banking at Monzo, emphasized the focus on providing customers with a simple, transparent, and flexible mobile experience that rewards loyalty.

While Monzo Mobile offers yearly discounts, other providers may offer more cost-effective upfront deals. For instance, Lebara presents a plan with 10GB of UK data at £5.95 per month on a rolling contract via comparison platforms. Talkmobile customers can access 20GB for the same price, and ID Mobile offers 25GB of UK data at £6 per month, as well as an unlimited plan for £15 monthly.

For individuals not tied to a contract, it is advisable to assess potential savings on their mobile bills. By comparing current usage patterns and exploring alternatives through comparison websites, users can determine if switching providers or renegotiating with their existing one is a more economical option.

Additionally, customers receiving benefits should explore eligibility for social tariffs, which may start from £12 monthly for broadband and £10 for mobile services. Eligibility criteria vary among suppliers, and specific benefits that qualify for support are not universally defined.
