A disturbing video captures a massive shark circling a boat off the coast of Portugal. Believed to be a great white shark measuring between 10ft and 13ft, the sighting occurred near Nazaré, known for its massive waves attracting surfers.
The video was filmed during a boat tour between São Martinho do Porto and Nazaré, shared on Instagram by Ocean Adventures on July 25. In their post, Ocean Adventures described encountering a large shark approaching and swimming around the boat without showing signs of aggression.
The shark, estimated to be 3/4m long, displayed calm behavior and curiosity during the encounter. Though its exact species remains unconfirmed, Nuno Santos, the boat tour operator, suggested it could be a great white based on its appearance.
Notably, the video showing the shark swimming near the boat has garnered over 670,000 views on social media platforms. Great white sharks are known for their ability to travel long distances in search of suitable habitats and food sources.
While sightings of great white sharks in the Mediterranean and North Atlantic are documented, encounters near mainland Portugal are rare. Eventually, the shark swam away from the boat and disappeared into deeper waters.
