“Macron and Zelensky’s Diplomatic Talks at G7”

Emmanuel Macron and Volodymyr Zelensky were overheard discussing Donald Trump at the G7 summit while strolling the grounds of the Hotel Royal.

The French president mentioned a challenging discussion with Trump regarding the conflict in Ukraine during a meeting that took place in front of cameras the previous day. Macron encouraged Zelensky to extend his stay at the three-day summit, but Zelensky mentioned his upcoming meeting with European Union leaders in Brussels the following day.

There was also a brief conversation about organizing a bilateral meeting, including a reference to President Trump, which Macron agreed to facilitate. The talks with Zelensky concluded swiftly after 75 minutes, with Zelensky highlighting Ukraine’s commitment to peace amid Russia’s interactions with world leaders.

Zelensky emphasized the unanimous support from the G7 for Ukraine’s request for more Patriot missiles to enhance defense capabilities against potential Russian missile attacks on critical infrastructure and urban centers.

Reports indicate that G7 leaders, including Trump, agreed to intensify pressure on Russia through targeted sanctions on its oil and natural gas sectors. Following the reduction of US aid to Ukraine, France and European allies have stepped up as major supporters of Kyiv, providing military and financial assistance.

The G7 leaders engaged in robust discussions on resolving the conflict in Ukraine and are expected to address the ongoing crisis in the Middle East during the summit. Additionally, Switzerland announced a forthcoming signing ceremony for a deal between the US and Iran, aimed at extending a fragile ceasefire and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

However, challenges persist in achieving lasting peace, with uncertainties surrounding Israel’s military actions in Lebanon, where Israeli strikes have resulted in significant casualties according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
