An Israeli airstrike in the central Gaza Strip resulted in the deaths of two Palestinians, including a three-year-old child, as confirmed by health officials on Sunday. The strike, near a bakery in Deir al-Balah, claimed the lives of Tayyem Hamdan, aged 3, and Hussam Nusair, along with causing injuries to several others.
According to Gaza medics, the Israeli military targeted and eliminated a Hamas militant, alleging that Nusair was involved in attacks against Israeli military personnel and civilians. Hamas has not yet responded to the military’s claims.
Despite a U.S.-supported ceasefire last October that reduced major conflict in the area, Israeli military actions have continued, citing the need to prevent attacks by Hamas and other militant groups in Gaza. Hamas has criticized Israel for breaching the ceasefire terms and obstructing the implementation of a broader peace initiative proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, which includes Israeli pullbacks and the disarmament of Hamas.
Since the ceasefire went into effect in October, over 1,300 Palestinians have lost their lives in Gaza, as reported by Gazan health authorities. In contrast, the Israeli military has recorded the deaths of four Israeli soldiers during the same period.
