Iran Ramps Up Detentions Amid Conflict with US

Iranian security forces have detained more than 3,000 individuals since the commencement of the conflict with the US, accusing them of collaborating with the perceived adversary.

Despite President Donald Trump’s assurance to rebels that assistance would be provided when the war began in February, a total of 3,296 people have been taken into custody.

Around 684 individuals are suspected of espionage activities and engaging in “operational actions” on behalf of Israel, as acknowledged by Tehran’s judiciary to local media. Notably, authorities in Isfahan Province have confiscated properties belonging to approximately 100 of the accused in a widespread crackdown.

A security analyst disclosed to the Mirror that the implemented measures have led to a significant number of arrests, extensive seizure of assets, heightened prosecutions on national security grounds, and an increase in capital charges against those accused of collaborating with foreign adversaries.

The crackdown has primarily targeted political dissidents, ethnic minorities, activists, journalists, and individuals believed to be against the state. The fragile ceasefire in Lebanon, crucial for a peace agreement with Iran, faced jeopardy after Israeli forces fired upon individuals in the south, resulting in casualties and threatening the peace process.

Hezbollah’s deputy head of the political council issued a warning, emphasizing the group’s readiness to confront any violations by the Israeli regime. The recent escalation of violence poses a threat to the peace negotiations.

Tensions escalated over Iran and its proxy Hezbollah in Lebanon following Iran’s chief negotiator’s assertion that the management of the Strait of Hormuz would not revert to its pre-war state. This statement directly contradicted President Trump’s demand for an unconditional reopening of the waterway, impacting maritime traffic.

Iran has established a new governmental body to collect fees from passing ships, requiring vessels to register with the Persian Gulf Strait Authority before crossing. Additionally, an agreement has been reached with the US to release $12 billion in frozen Iranian funds, as part of ongoing talks aimed at establishing a lasting peace framework.

Israeli Defense Forces affirmed their stance of not withdrawing troops as long as Hezbollah remains active in Lebanon and the current government holds power.
