The devastated partner of a hiker who tragically lost her life in a vicious alligator attack has expressed his profound sorrow, revealing his struggles to cope with the loss.
Brittany Clark, aged 31, was fatally mauled by an alligator while swimming in a Florida river alongside her companion, Chance Allison, 30, and a friend during a hiking trip. Reports indicated that Chance bravely fought the alligator as it pulled them underwater in a violent spinning motion known as the “death roll” that alligators use to dismantle prey.
In his first public statement since Brittany’s passing, Chance admitted to the difficulty of accepting her absence and promised to care for her cherished pets. Taking to Facebook, he penned a heartfelt message, expressing disbelief over the tragic event and reminiscing about their future plans and memories together.
He wrote, “I’m at a loss for words, and it almost feels inappropriate to post anything. I still can’t believe what happened. We had so much ahead of us, so many memories to create. You were truly special and did not deserve such a fate. I love you, and I will ensure that Shady and Hokie are looked after forever.”
Chance mentioned his intentions to organize a celebration of Brittany’s life while expressing gratitude for the support he has received, acknowledging that it has been instrumental in helping him stay composed amidst his emotional turmoil.
Brittany’s father, Robert, aged 57, recounted the harrowing moment he learned of the attack while it unfolded. He recounted receiving a distressing call from Brittany’s roommate, Jayden Hernandez, who provided updates as they attempted to save Brittany’s life, awaiting authorities’ arrival at the scene.
Following a chilling 911 call capturing the frantic moments post-attack, Jayden described Brittany’s severe injuries, including the loss of one arm and the near detachment of the other. Urgently requesting assistance to stop the bleeding, the chaotic background noise reflected the desperate attempts to rescue Brittany from the alligator’s grasp.
During the call, Chance and Jayden described the gruesome extent of Brittany’s injuries, highlighting the severity of the situation. Despite their efforts to pull Brittany to safety, the injuries sustained proved fatal, and Brittany succumbed to her wounds after being rushed to the hospital. Subsequently, wildlife officials captured two large alligators, measuring 13ft and 12ft, in response to the tragic incident.
