“Mother’s Vigilance Uncovers Toddler’s Rare Cancer Battle”

A mother shares her experience of observing her young child’s unusual walking pattern, leading to the discovery of a rare and aggressive type of cancer. Maxton Bowman, aged two, began showing walking difficulties shortly after mastering the skill, eventually losing his ability to walk entirely.

In September 2025, Maxton was admitted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle after exhibiting a worrying blood rash. Subsequent tests revealed that he was suffering from lymphoblastic leukemia, a swiftly progressing blood cancer.

Following the diagnosis, Maxton has been undergoing extensive medical care and is awaiting his next chemotherapy session due to low neutrophil levels affecting his immune system. His mother, Coralle, expressed determination, stating, “You’ve got to save him,” emphasizing a positive family outlook despite the challenges.

Maxton, who faces additional hurdles due to being autistic and non-verbal, achieved a significant milestone of walking just before his second birthday. Coralle noticed his physical decline as he developed a limp and lost mobility in both legs, prompting multiple hospital visits before the cancer diagnosis.

Despite enduring rigorous treatments and severe side effects, including temporary leg paralysis, Maxton’s resilient spirit shines through. His parents highlight his continuous positivity, with Coralle noting his recent progress in crawling after months of immobility.

Due to his condition and autism, Maxton requires constant supervision for safety. A specialized bed is being sought to ensure his secure rest, prompting a community fundraising effort through a GoFundMe page and a planned bike ride event to support the family’s needs.

The family aims to showcase the strength and resilience Maxton embodies daily, encouraging support for his journey without evoking pity but highlighting his unwavering determination.
