Tyson McEwan from McEwans Towing in Havre Boucher, Antigonish County, has been busy this weekend, rescuing around 20 vehicles amidst challenging weather conditions. Following a storm in Halifax, McEwan rushed back home to a flood of calls for assistance.
Cape Breton bore the brunt of the heavy rainfall, with over 200 millimeters of rain reported in various areas. Tragically, one individual was discovered deceased in a flooded zone near Cleveland, N.S. The mainland also faced significant rainfall.
In one remarkable incident, McEwan undertook a daring rescue operation in St. Francis Harbour, Guysborough County. A driver misjudged the water level on Carr Road, leading to his truck submerging in Porper Pond. The vehicle was found sideways due to the strong current upon McEwan’s arrival.
With six years of towing experience in Nova Scotia, McEwan described the current conditions as the most severe he has encountered. Navigating through multiple road washouts, he highlighted the challenges posed by high winds and compromised road shoulders during his rescue missions.
Despite the difficult circumstances, McEwan’s dedication to providing assistance remained unwavering. The community continues to face the aftermath of the storm, with recovery efforts ongoing.
