A young boy, six years old, tragically lost his life in a car accident shortly after his father sustained severe injuries in a separate incident. The boy, known as Cohen locally, was involved in a collision between a white Volkswagen Golf and a parked white Citroen Relay van in Skellow, Doncaster. He passed away in the hospital on July 1, six days after the collision occurred.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, the fatal crash happened just moments after another “devastating accident” that left Cohen’s father with life-altering injuries when he was struck by a motorist while riding his bike. South Yorkshire Police reported that a 52-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and other driving offenses, has been released on bail pending further investigation.
The van driver is cooperating with the police investigation, as per reports from YorkshireLive. Following the tragic incidents, a fundraising effort was initiated to support the grieving family of the father and son.
The fundraiser, initiated by Leanne Hone, aims to provide assistance to a local family affected by the two back-to-back accidents. The family is not only mourning the loss of their young son but also dealing with the physical, emotional, and financial hardships ahead due to the father’s injuries. The community has come together to offer support, with donations helping alleviate the financial strain on the family during this challenging period.
Over £2,000 has already been raised with the help of 52 contributors. A fundraising event at Skellow Grange Working Men’s Club is in the works, organized by Chloe Rayner and Jack Godber, with all proceeds designated to support the grieving family during this difficult time. The community’s unity and generosity are greatly appreciated in making this event a reality.
