A British citizen in Hong Kong was sentenced to six years in prison for blackmail and perverting the course of justice. Isabel Rose, 26, presented WhatsApp messages to the court as evidence of an alleged rape, but the judge found her guilty of demanding £100,000 from the accused and making false accusations.
District Judge Adriana Tse emphasized that Rose showed no remorse for her actions and dismissed pleas for leniency based on her previous clean record. The judge described Rose’s behavior as manipulative and dishonest, contrasting her character with that of the accused, whom she deemed honest and reliable.
The court heard that Rose and the banker met in Thailand before he invited her to Hong Kong. Rose claimed to have been raped in his apartment shortly after her arrival. However, the man was released by the police due to insufficient evidence, and Rose was later arrested for blackmail.
Despite maintaining her rape allegation, Rose was charged with demanding money from the banker and perverting the course of justice. The judge criticized Rose’s actions as inconsistent with a genuine rape claim and highlighted her escalating demands for money as evidence of manipulation.
