The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards are here, celebrating the best television shows, top performers, and standout acts from the past year. The ceremony kicks off live from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, with Mariska Hargitay from “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” hosting.
HBO is making waves with two standout shows leading the nominations. The medical drama “The Pitt,” starring Noah Wyle, leads the pack with 25 nominations, including a nod for outstanding drama series. Wyle is also a strong contender for outstanding lead actor in a drama series.
Following closely is HBO’s buddy comedy “Hacks” with 24 nominations, setting a new record for the most Emmy nominations for a comedy series in a single year. Apple TV is also making a mark with its comedy-horror series “Widow’s Bay” earning 19 nods.
Zendaya is in the spotlight as she aims for her third win as outstanding lead actress in a drama series, potentially becoming the youngest performer to achieve this feat thrice. She previously won the award at 24 and made history as the youngest two-time winner in 2022.
Several stars have already secured wins at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, with Bad Bunny and Sabrina Carpenter among the recipients. The late Rob Reiner posthumously won for outstanding guest actor in a comedy series.
This year’s show introduces a new award after nearly two decades: the Legacy Award, recognizing programs that have had a lasting impact on audiences and culture. The major categories feature nominees such as “The Pitt” and “Hacks” for best drama and comedy series, respectively.
