A train transporting hazardous materials derailed close to a small US town, leading authorities to advise residents to take shelter. The incident occurred in Bensalem, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, at approximately 2:20 pm on Tuesday, prompting the deployment of a hazmat team to the crash site.
Reports indicate that two train cars are carrying dangerous substances, including a flammable isopropanol solution. Approximately forty cars were involved in the derailment, as per local sources.
Bensalem Public Safety Director William McVey mentioned that there have been no reported injuries so far, although there is a possibility of hazardous materials present on the train. The cause of the derailment is currently unknown.
Pennsylvania Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick communicated via Facebook that a one-mile shelter-in-place order is active for individuals near the derailment area. He noted the collaboration with local officials and the Department of Transportation in responding to the incident, emphasizing that it was a freight train derailment, not on commuter rail lines.
Fitzpatrick urged those within the shelter-in-place zone to stay indoors, secure pets and animals, close windows and doors, and turn off heating and air conditioning systems. He advised the public outside the designated area to avoid the scene, clear surrounding roads, and allow emergency responders to manage the situation safely.
Acknowledging the efforts of first responders and emergency personnel, Fitzpatrick requested prayers for their safety. Updates will be provided as the situation evolves and more information becomes available.
