Gurkha Veteran Hari Budha Magar Sets Fifth Guinness World Record

Former Gurkha soldier and Pride of Britain awardee Hari Budha Magar joyfully reached out to the Mirror upon learning about his fifth Guinness World Record win. Budha Magar, a double amputee, became the first to conquer the Seven Summits of the world. Reflecting on his achievement, the 46-year-old expressed his elation, describing the arduous journey he undertook to accomplish this feat.

The Seven Summits challenge encompasses scaling Mount Everest in Nepal, Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Denali in Alaska, Aconcagua in Argentina, Vinson Massif in Antarctica, Carstensz Pyramid in New Guinea, and Elbrus in Russia. Due to inaccessibility, Budha Magar substituted Elbrus with Mont Blanc in France, duly acknowledged by Guinness World Records.

In 2019, Budha Magar embarked on his final conquest, summiting Mount Vinson on January 7 of this year, securing yet another Guinness World Record. As an adaptive mountaineer and advocate for disability rights, he has achieved remarkable milestones, including being the first double above-knee amputee to summit Mount Everest and conquer various other peaks.

Recognized with a Special Recognition Award at the 2024 Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards, Budha Magar continues to inspire by pushing boundaries. His unwavering determination and resilience stand as a testament to overcoming challenges and defying limits. Looking ahead, he contemplates new ventures, aiming to inspire and empower individuals with disabilities to pursue their passions and break barriers.
