Shocking video captures the frightening moment gunfire erupted in Times Square, following the New York Knicks’ victory parade. The footage, believed to be from a surveillance camera positioned above the square, shows tourists going about their day before five loud shots echo through the area.
In the video, the crowd quickly disperses as visitors scramble towards buildings and around corners to escape. Amidst the chaos, screams and cries can be heard. Some pedestrians, overwhelmed by fear, rush into the street, where traffic on Seventh Avenue cautiously maneuvers through the fleeing crowd.
Others seem disoriented, standing still in the middle of the road or the square, unsure of their next move. Soon after, the once-packed tourist hub empties out, with only a few individuals lingering at the edges of the plaza, as reported by the Express.
The incident occurred at 3:37 pm on Thursday, as confirmed by a New York Police Department spokesperson in a statement to Daily Express US. The spokesperson stated that police responded to reports of gunfire near 43rd St. and Seventh Avenue. Law enforcement witnessed an individual firing a weapon into the crowd, leading to the arrest of a man and the recovery of a firearm at the scene. However, it remained unclear if the gun was connected to the suspect.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the NYPD has initiated an investigation into the incident. Additional footage from ground level shows a man describing the chaotic scene in the tourist area, recounting a brawl just before the shots were fired. Bystanders can be seen fleeing the scene, narrowly missing the man as he captures the unfolding turmoil, informing viewers of the shooting he witnessed.
