Zack Polanski has declined to offer an apology to Nigel Farage regarding his recent social media post featuring a guillotine T-shirt.
The leader of the Green Party explained that he unintentionally shared an image on Instagram showing a man in a black T-shirt with the message “We’re only making plans for Nigel” alongside a guillotine graphic.
In response to this, Reform UK’s Zia Yusuf accused the Green Party leader of encouraging violence, prompting Nigel Farage to call for Polanski’s arrest.
During an appearance on BBC Newsnight, Polanski stated that he would not apologize to Farage, emphasizing that it was an inadvertent mistake. He expressed the importance of condemning political violence and committed to improving his social media practices.
Polanski reiterated that the post was a collaboration with a photographer and that he had not intentionally shared it. He promptly removed the image upon realizing the mistake and expressed willingness to cooperate if contacted by the police.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed they were investigating the matter seriously. Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden advised caution in social media posts, especially following recent events, and stated that any necessary actions would be determined by the police.
Previously, Polanski apologized for hastily sharing a post criticizing the police’s handling of an incident, acknowledging his error.
