A young man was critically injured in a quad biking accident while on vacation in Greece. Alfie Moses, an 18-year-old on his first trip with friends, suffered multiple fractures and internal injuries after crashing his quad bike in Zante. The incident occurred when he lost control of the vehicle at high speed and was thrown off.
Alfie was rushed to a local hospital before being transferred to Mediterraneo Hospital in Athens for specialized care. His mother, Kayley Posnett, who flew to be by his side, described the harrowing experience of seeing her son in excruciating pain and barely able to communicate due to his severe injuries.
Doctors discovered the extent of Alfie’s injuries, including fractured vertebrae, broken ribs, a punctured lung, a ruptured spleen, and a brain bleed. Despite the grave situation, there are signs of improvement as Alfie has started speaking again and is responding well to treatment. He is currently under intensive care and will undergo spinal surgery once his condition stabilizes.
The family faces significant medical expenses, with initial costs already amounting to £17,000. Concerns have been raised about the lack of insurance coverage for quad biking accidents and the safety standards of rental operations abroad. Kayley highlighted the dangers posed by quad bikes, emphasizing the need for better awareness among young tourists.
Alfie’s road to recovery is expected to be long and challenging, but there is hope for his eventual discharge from the hospital. The incident serves as a reminder of the risks associated with quad biking, following a recent fatality involving a British tourist in Greece. Support for Alfie and his family can be found through a fundraising campaign to cover ongoing medical costs in Greece.
