“Gary Glitter Questioned on New Child Sexual Offenses”

Jailed former pop star Gary Glitter, a convicted paedophile, has been questioned by the police regarding alleged sexual offenses involving a girl under 14 years old. The incidents are said to have occurred over an extended period during the late 1970s and early 1980s at a residential location in Kensington, west London. Glitter, also known as Paul Gadd, was reportedly interrogated in prison following a complaint made on January 9, 2025.

Currently incarcerated at category C HMP Channings Wood in Devon, Glitter is serving a 16-year sentence imposed in 2015 for sexually assaulting three schoolgirls between 1975 and 1980, with a release date set for 2031.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that an elderly man was interviewed under caution in relation to the reported offenses in July 2025, with ongoing investigations and support being provided to the victim by specialized officers. The police emphasized their commitment to listening to and assisting individuals reporting historical sexual crimes, highlighting the increased efforts in safeguarding and victim support training that have led to a significant rise in child sexual exploitation charges.

Glitter was released from HMP The Verne in Portland, Dorset, in February 2023 after serving half of his term but was promptly reincarcerated for breaching his parole conditions by attempting to access the dark web and viewing illicit images of children.

Despite his unsuccessful attempt to secure release during a Parole Board review in June of the previous year, Glitter remains imprisoned. The crimes for which he was convicted in 2015 were uncovered during Operation Yewtree, a Metropolitan Police initiative initiated in response to the Jimmy Savile scandal. Glitter was the first individual arrested under this operation at his residence in London in October 2012.
