The UK is bracing for another intense heatwave that could push temperatures to 38C, according to weather forecasts.
Yesterday marked the hottest day of the year and the hottest June day ever recorded in the UK, with temperatures reaching 37.3C in Santon Downham amid an ongoing heatwave. The extreme heat prompted the Met Office to issue rare red weather warnings for high temperatures in England. The heatwave also brought thunderstorms and lightning strikes, causing damage to buildings in various regions.
Although the Met Office’s latest forecast indicates a slight drop in temperatures below 30C tomorrow, there are predictions that temperatures could soar past 30C again soon.
The GFS weather model suggests a four-day heatwave starting on July 8, with highs ranging from 30C to 33C across central and southern England. On July 9, temperatures are expected to climb as high as 36C near London, with 35C likely in southern and eastern England, and parts of Wales reaching 30C.
Forecasts indicate that temperatures could reach scorching highs of 38C on July 10, particularly in western England and the south. On July 11, temperatures may again reach 38C, extending from the north-west to the Midlands, Yorkshire, and the south-east, with areas near the England-Scotland border experiencing temperatures exceeding 30C.
Temperature anomaly maps show that the UK, especially England, is expected to experience significantly higher temperatures than the seasonal average during this period.
According to the GFS weather model, 17 counties in England could see temperatures of 38C or higher. The Met Office anticipates hot conditions in July with a possibility of thundery showers. The forecast for July 11 to 25 suggests a chance of above-average temperatures and the likelihood of unsettled conditions with intermittent rain and stronger winds, particularly in the north.
