An alleged gangland retaliation unfolded as a car crashed into a residence associated with a notorious criminal clan and was set ablaze in the second incident of its kind this year.
The incident occurred in the Barlanark neighborhood of Glasgow during the early hours of Thursday, June 18. Emergency services responded to the scene as flames spread from the vehicle to the front door of the end-of-terrace house.
According to The Daily Record, the targeted house is linked to a relative of a foot soldier connected to a prominent local crime family. This location was previously targeted in a similar assault in February when a car was rammed into the building’s side.
Sources informed The Record that the attack was in retaliation for a firebomb incident at a business associated with an associate of a mob boss in Edinburgh earlier in the week.
Witnesses stated, “This is clearly payback for the Tuesday attack in Edinburgh. The criminal factions are retaliating this year, and this is the second time this particular house has been singled out. They were not going to remain passive in the face of these actions. The individuals they are pursuing hold significant ranks within the organization.”
Photographs from the scene showed a white Nissan Juke engulfed in flames outside the residence. Additional images depicted the charred wreck of the vehicle that was used to crash into the property, with debris scattered across the garden.
The car had evidently smashed into the living room’s double window, leaving the panel and glass completely shattered. Scorch marks were visible on the brickwork above the window.
Authorities cordoned off the property and blocked access to the street. Reportedly, two men were spotted parking on a nearby street an hour before the assault.
A resident reported, “A vehicle parked behind here about an hour before the car was driven into the house. Two individuals exited the vehicle and lingered in the vicinity for a considerable time. Their actions were not discreet; I even overheard one asking the other if they had the petrol.”
“Suddenly, there was a loud bang as the car rammed into the property. They threw a petrol bomb inside the vehicle and fled into a nearby lane, returning to the car they had arrived in.”
In a separate incident last month, a skip lorry was driven into the Edinburgh residence of a young gang member accused of inciting Scotland’s drug conflict.
A spokesperson from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed, “We received reports of a residential fire on Garvel Crescent, Glasgow, at 12:39 a.m. on Thursday, June 18. Three fire engines were dispatched, and no injuries were reported. Crews departed by 2:32 a.m. after securing the area.”
