Two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, are currently standing trial for the alleged murder of a 15-year-old boy in a sword attack that took place in Glasgow. Amen Teklay was discovered severely injured on Clarendon Street in Maryhill on March 5 last year and tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The accusation states that the two teenage boys, wearing masks, purportedly assaulted the victim with a frying pan and a sword or similar weapon at Glenfarg Street and Clarendon Street on the specified day. It is claimed that they pursued Amen, ultimately striking him with the sword, resulting in fatal injuries.
Both defendants have refuted the charges, with the 16-year-old asserting self-defense as a special defense. Additionally, the 16-year-old faces charges of attempting to obstruct justice by concealing a blood-stained garment and disposing of a weapon on March 5, 2025.
Further allegations suggest that the 16-year-old engaged in threatening behavior on March 2 of the previous year, brandishing weapons at Amen and giving chase. Additionally, he is accused of unlawful possession of a blade between March 2 and 5, 2025, at various locations in Glasgow.
Furthermore, it is alleged that the 16-year-old, in collaboration with two others, assaulted Amen on Great Western Road on February 12 of the preceding year. Both teenagers have pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The trial is currently ongoing before Lord Colbeck at the High Court in Glasgow, with jurors sworn in on June 18. Emphasizing the importance of evidence-based verdicts, the jurors were instructed to base their decisions solely on the evidence presented during the trial.
