Funeral Director’s Deceit Unveiled in Shocking Scandal

A victim of Robert Bush, the funeral director, expressed to the Mirror how Bush transitioned rapidly from being a “consummate professional” to resembling “Frankenstein.”

Karen Dry, in a video discussing Bush’s illicit activities, shared her hope for justice to be served against him. She revealed her uncertainty about the authenticity of her parents’ ashes.

Bush faces sentencing at Hull crown court for perpetrating more than 65 offenses spanning 12 years, affecting numerous victims and their families.

In the video, Ms. Dry, residing in Cottingham, Hull, described Bush as initially charming and professional, but later revealed his true nature as deceitful. She highlighted the impossibility of DNA testing ashes and the profound impact on numerous families.

Another individual, Lucy Ness, shared her distress after discovering that she had received animal remains instead of her baby’s ashes from Bush. She recalled his initial pleasant demeanor on the phone, which led her to trust him initially.

Ms. Ness, who experienced a miscarriage during the COVID pandemic, expressed the deep emotional turmoil upon learning the truth about the ashes she received, compounding her trauma.

Kevin Moxon, from Moxon’s Funeral Directors, revealed unsettling findings following a raid on Legacy Independent Funeral Directors in March 2024, including bodies in varying stages of decay and improper handling of deceased individuals.

The shocking crimes of Bush were uncovered when police discovered unidentified ashes in deteriorating boxes at the Hessle Road premises more than two years ago, leading to his arrest.

Bush, who has pleaded guilty to 67 offenses, was accused of defrauding grieving families while spending lavishly on holidays. His sentencing hearing is expected to involve over 100 victim impact statements.

During the period from 2017 to 2024, Bush allegedly engaged in fraudulent activities by accepting money for unauthorized funeral plans and providing incorrect ashes to families. Financial transactions totaling £3.3 million were traced to Legacy and Bush’s accounts, with discrepancies in reported turnover.

Approximately £1.7 million was transferred from Legacy to Bush’s personal account during this time frame, underscoring the extent of his deceitful actions and financial misconduct.
