The Connecticut residence where former President Donald Trump and his first spouse, Ivana Trump, once lived is scheduled for demolition to make way for a new extravagant mansion.
The sprawling Georgian-style estate, spanning 19,786 square feet, is located on a peninsula along Greenwich’s waterfront. Acquired by the couple in 1982, shortly after the birth of their daughter Ivanka, the property was valued at $4 million at the time. Following their divorce in 1992, where Ivana retained ownership post-settlement and eventually sold it in 1998.
Originally built in 1939, the property sits on 5.8 acres of waterfront land. The main house includes nine bedrooms and covers about 20,000 square feet, as reported by the Irish Star. Ivana sold the mansion for $15 million after various upgrades, with a subsequent sale in 2024 for $31.5 million.
The new proprietors are planning extensive updates to the already lavish estate, such as an outdoor tennis court, a swimming pool, additional structures, an indoor tennis court, and a new main house measuring approximately 17,000 square feet. The property is now under the ownership of 21 Vista Drive LLC, previously held by financier Robert Steinberg and Suzanne Steinberg.
Legal representative John Tesei, representing the new owner, stated that the proposed changes involve combining three lots into one zoning lot, removing existing structures, and redeveloping the property. Additionally, new beach frontage is part of the redevelopment plan.
Due to the project’s scale, the new owners have applied for a special permit through the town planning department. This permit is crucial for the project to proceed, as it exceeds 150,000 cubic feet of construction work.
While details about the new main residence are confidential, Robert A.M. Stern Architects has been enlisted for the project. The architecture firm is renowned for its work on prestigious projects like Billionaire’s Row at 220 Central Park South and the George W. Bush Presidential Library.
The application timeline for assessment is pending, with authorization timing remaining uncertain.
Ivana Trump, who passed away in 2022, detailed the property in her 2017 memoir, “Raising Trump,” recounting how they selected the estate while surveying the town from a helicopter. She passed away at the age of 73 due to accidental injuries sustained from a fall at her New York City residence, with no suspicions of foul play.
