The father of Aria Thorpe, devastated by the tragic news of his nine-year-old daughter’s death after a stabbing incident, was left in shock. Aria, who suffered a fatal knife wound to her chest at her residence in Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset, on December 15 last year, passed away unexpectedly. Tom Thorpe, Aria’s father, received the distressing news from Aria’s grandfather, Dennis, while he was in Brighton, East Sussex, leading to an abrupt change in his plans.
Tom, who works on an offshore wind turbine schedule of two weeks on and two weeks off, had just returned to Brighton when he received the devastating call. Learning that Aria had been stabbed at her mother’s house, Tom was puzzled and distressed by the shocking news. Subsequently, he was informed that a 16-year-old boy had been apprehended in connection with Aria’s tragic death.
Struggling to come to terms with the loss of his daughter, Tom described the surreal experience of being told the news and the emotional turmoil that followed. He fondly remembered the last time he saw Aria at a garden center and shared how Aria enjoyed nature and outdoor activities. The unexpected turn of events left Tom reeling, prompting him to travel back to Portsmouth with his partner, Sophie, to face the heartbreaking reality.
Following the trial, where a teenage boy was found not guilty of Aria’s murder and manslaughter, Tom expressed profound disappointment and frustration. The jury’s decision compounded his grief, leaving him feeling as though justice had not been served. Despite considering legal options for an appeal, Tom acknowledged the complexities and challenges involved in seeking further action.
The boy involved in the incident claimed that Aria’s death was accidental, narrating a sequence of events that led to the fatal injury. Despite the court’s verdict of not guilty on both charges, the emotional toll on Aria’s family, especially her father, was palpable. Tom’s struggle to process the tragic loss of his daughter was further exacerbated by the legal outcome, adding to his anguish and sense of injustice.
