The father of a teenager who was murdered expressed deep sadness as the perpetrator was seen bragging about the crime in a rap video filmed within his prison cell.
Jay Stewart, aged 19, received a life sentence last week for fatally stabbing 16-year-old Kayden Moy on a beach in North Ayrshire, Scotland in May 2025.
In the video lasting two minutes, captured at HMP Polmont, Stewart is shown wearing a t-shirt over his face while rapping about the murder and making threats of future violence upon release.
Kayden’s father, Paul, reacted to the video, describing it as devastating for the family. He emphasized the pain of witnessing Stewart seemingly boasting and laughing about the tragedy with no remorse or respect. The video, filmed by a fellow inmate, shows Stewart referring to the incident as he raps, indicating violent intentions for the future.
Stewart, along with Cole Turley, 18, received a minimum 16-year prison sentence for the murder, while a 15-year-old boy was sentenced to a minimum of 14 years. The fatal stabbing occurred on Irvine beach, where the teenagers pursued Kayden, leading to his death after he slipped and fell during a confrontation.
During the sentencing of the three teenagers, Judge Lord Scott characterized Kayden’s death as senseless and avoidable.
In response to the video, a spokesperson from the Scottish Prison Service acknowledged the distress such content causes and highlighted efforts to prevent illicit items, including mobile phones, from entering prisons. They affirmed collaboration with law enforcement to address security breaches.
