Swiss authorities announced on Monday the apprehension of a 43-year-old individual linked to a fatal shooting incident at a rave held in Aarau over the weekend. During the event at a covered horse racing venue, a 22-year-old woman from Italy lost her life, and five others sustained injuries due to the shooting in the early hours of Sunday.
Following the occurrence, a significant police operation was initiated, resulting in the arrest of the 43-year-old Swiss male shortly before 1 a.m. on Monday on suspicion of perpetrating the attack. Law enforcement in the canton of Aargau stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the precise details of the incident, its underlying reasons, and any potential motives. Authorities believe at this stage that a lone perpetrator was responsible.
Authorities revealed that they are exploring three potential motives for the shooting, including the possibility of a mass shooting, a terrorist act, or an unidentified criminal intent. Evidence collected at the crime scene pointed to the presence of cartridges belonging to two different bullet calibers, indicating the likely use of both a pistol and a larger weapon, potentially an assault rifle.
