An ex-police officer with a disturbing fascination for notorious criminals like Jack the Ripper and the Moors Murderers has been sentenced to prison for expressing online his twisted desires of raping and killing women and girls.
Brian Darby, aged 80, was previously imprisoned for life in 2002 for attempting to carry out his murderous schemes by stalking potential victims and breaking into a woman’s home with intentions of harming her. After his release on license in 2017, he quickly turned to viewing inappropriate images of children online, which led to his arrest earlier this year for producing and sharing indecent images of children using artificial intelligence.
During investigations, authorities uncovered a trail of online conversations where Darby detailed gruesome rape and murder fantasies, including disturbing posts on Reddit advocating for violent acts against women and children. In court, it was revealed that Darby even discussed chilling scenarios like strangling his wife in front of family members for encouragement.
Darby, labeled as emotionally detached and unconcerned about his actions, was sentenced to four years in prison, with an additional two years on license. The judge emphasized Darby’s dangerous tendencies, citing his history of violent sexual material involvement with children and adults, as well as his recurrent pattern of criminal behavior.
Previously dismissed from the police force for indecent assaults in the 1970s, Darby’s criminal activities escalated over the years, culminating in a conviction for conspiracy to murder in 2001. Collaborating with a young girl named Jeannette White, Darby orchestrated sinister schemes and shared graphic correspondences about violent acts.
Despite Darby’s remorse, attributing his actions to addiction, he faces a lengthy prison term and the need to convince the Parole Board of his readiness for release. His reprehensible conduct has been condemned by law enforcement, highlighting the gravity of such offenses and the commitment to prosecuting individuals involved in child exploitation.
The Metropolitan Police’s Online Child Sexual Abuse Exploitation team expressed its dedication to apprehending offenders like Darby, stressing the severity of such crimes and the importance of swift intervention to protect vulnerable individuals online.
