“Equestrian Community Mourns Tragic Loss of Skilled Rider”

The spouse of a woman who tragically passed away in an unexpected horse riding incident expressed the devastation their family is enduring. Kerry Donoghue, a skilled equestrian, suffered a fatal fall during a cross-country event in Penrith, Cumbria. The 42-year-old, hailing from Glasgow, was riding Carneyhaugh Rua at the Penrith Horse Trials when the tragic accident occurred. Despite immediate medical attention at the scene, she succumbed to her injuries.

In an online tribute, Kerry’s husband, Matthew Donoghue, mourned the loss of his “remarkable wife” due to the fatal horse riding accident. He conveyed their profound grief, stating that Kerry will always remain in their hearts and thoughts. He emphasized the importance of expressing love and appreciation to loved ones, acknowledging that their lives will never be the same. The family expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received during this challenging time.

Prior to the incident, Kerry had shared her concerns about the dangers of the sport on a podcast. Despite her fears of sustaining life-altering injuries, she continued to compete. Kerry celebrated completing her first British Eventing Novice competition with her horse, Carneyhaugh Rua, affectionately known as ‘Roly Poly.’

A GoFundMe campaign was initiated to assist Kerry’s family with unforeseen expenses, and donations have exceeded £19,000. A friend, David Smith, launched the fundraiser to support the family during this tragic loss. Contributions can be made to Kerry’s GoFundMe page.
