An elderly British man tragically passed away when his vehicle caught fire in Cyprus. The incident occurred in Avgorou, a region in the southwest of Cyprus, after the car became stuck in mud.
The 88-year-old driver was on his way to an animal shelter with his dog and caregiver when they apparently took a wrong turn onto a dirt road. While trying to free the car, sparks from the vehicle ignited dry reeds nearby, leading to a fire that quickly engulfed the car on Saturday.
Although the caregiver managed to escape and advised the man to leave the vehicle, he insisted she seek help. After the fire was extinguished, the man’s body was discovered outside the passenger door, indicating he had attempted to flee the flames. Tragically, his dog also perished in the blaze.
An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. A post-mortem examination confirmed that the man died from burns. The man resided in Pachna, a village in southern Cyprus, as per Cyprus Mail’s report.
