A 32-year-old woman, Serena Dolnics, was discovered by police in Valparaiso, located about 50 miles from Chicago, standing near the lifeless body of her father. She has been charged with the murder of her father, Gregory Dolnics, after allegedly surgically removing his heart. The authorities responded to an emergency call expressing concern for the well-being of the 69-year-old Gregory. Family members reported that Serena had been behaving strangely, prompting the call to 911. Meanwhile, Serena’s boyfriend, present at the scene, messaged the police, stating that Serena was covered in blood and might have harmed her father. Upon arriving at the residence, law enforcement found dried blood and signs of a struggle. Upon entering the property, they discovered Gregory’s body with severe slash wounds on his head, face, neck, and hands, with his heart removed. Serena, who had blood on her feet, was apprehended after receiving medical treatment for hand injuries. Despite claiming that her hand injuries were from gardening, authorities believe they are consistent with wielding a knife. Serena mentioned that she and her father had a good relationship, with only minor disagreements that were quickly resolved. She appeared in court wearing a suicide-prevention garment and initially pleaded not guilty. She is yet to secure legal representation and mentioned in court that she will address this matter. A follow-up court hearing is scheduled for August 11.
