Whether you enjoy them or cringe at them, dad jokes are an integral part of family dynamics. As Father’s Day approaches this weekend, a survey of 2,000 individuals in the UK has unveiled the most popular dad joke: “I’m on a seafood diet… I see food and I eat it”, capturing 18% of the votes.
Following closely behind is the quip: “I only know 25 letters of the alphabet… I don’t know y”, along with “Two guys walked into a bar. The third guy ducked” and “Yesterday I was washing the car with my son. He said, ‘Dad, can’t you just use a sponge?’”, all earning spots in the top selection of cringe-worthy dad jokes.
Despite the divisive nature of dad jokes, a significant portion of respondents expressed their fondness for them. More than half of the participants revealed that they consider their father to be one of the funniest individuals in their lives, according to a survey conducted by Bloom & Wild.
Nearly one in five respondents indicated that their father has an extraordinary ability to lift their spirits, even on the most challenging days, while 14% believe that their dad’s sense of humor is incomparable.
However, every great dad joke is accompanied by a side of embarrassment. Almost one in five respondents confessed that their father often chuckles at his own jokes, and 16% find themselves frequently rolling their eyes at his predictable puns.
Further research revealed that fathers are cherished for much more than their comedic timing, with 21% of Brits describing their fathers as their “rock.”
As Father’s Day approaches, close to three in 10 individuals are planning to present their dads with thoughtful gifts. Popular gift choices include a bottle of whisky (13%), craft beer or ale (12%), a personalized T-shirt (11%), and a bag of favorite sweets (10%).
Jess Henderson, a gifting expert at Bloom & Wild, emphasized the significance of Father’s Day as an opportunity to celebrate the unique qualities of dads, from their humor to their unwavering support.
