Hundreds of individuals gathered to pay tribute to a mother and her two daughters who were discovered deceased in their residence in a poignant ceremony.
The heartfelt memorial event for Nothabo Zandile Tshuma, aged 42, along with her daughters, Natalie, 15, and Nala, 5, took place at Bedford’s Corn Exchange, drawing nearly 500 attendees mourning their tragic passing earlier in the month. During an inquest that commenced on Tuesday, it was revealed that Zandile succumbed to head injuries, while Natalie and Nala both perished from blunt force head injuries.
Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma, aged 45, is currently in custody in South Africa following his arrest in Johannesburg on suspicion of the murder of his wife and daughters. The memorial service united relatives, friends, coworkers, and teachers who reminisced about the trio and honored the lives they led.
Speaking to the mourners, Zandile’s cousin, Michelle Ncube, expressed the deep sorrow felt, stating, “Words cannot adequately convey our loss. We mourn the futures that have been unjustly taken from them and from us.” Fondly remembering her cousin, she remarked, “She graced us with her clever humor, her intellect. She adored gardening. Yet, she not only nurtured flowers but also people.”
Michelle highlighted Zandile’s unwavering devotion to her daughters, emphasizing that “every action she took was with their future in mind.” A heartfelt message from Zandile’s sister in Zimbabwe was also shared with the gathering, lamenting the irreplaceable loss and the void left in their hearts and family.
Bedford Girls’ School headmistress, Gemma Gibson, fondly recalled Natalie as a kind and thoughtful pupil with a radiant smile that encapsulated her inner beauty. Natalie’s numerous sports achievements at the school were also acknowledged, with her teacher, Nikki Woodworth, remembering Nala for her legendary hugs.
The memorial service was orchestrated by Jabu Ncube, a friend of Zandile for two decades since their university days. He grappled with finding words to articulate the inexplicable loss and urged those present to remember the departed as the angels they are.
Zandile’s colleagues at Forensic Risk Alliance in London, where she worked in forensic data analytics, paid tribute to her exceptional professionalism, sharp intellect, and passion for her work, coupled with kindness.
Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma, apprehended in Johannesburg for illegal possession of firearms, has been linked to the tragic deaths. Legal proceedings in South Africa will determine the validity of a British extradition request and the Crown Prosecution Service has sanctioned three murder charges against him.
The funerals for Zandile, Natalie, and Nala are scheduled to be held in Zimbabwe next week.
