“Carbon Monoxide Tragedy: Grandma and Four Grandkids Die in SUV”

A tragic incident in Toledo, Ohio, claimed the lives of a grandmother and her four grandchildren due to carbon monoxide exposure inside a vehicle. Candace McAllister was driving her grandchildren when her SUV had a flat tire. After pulling over and calling for help, all five occupants were found unresponsive with the engine running. Emergency services discovered that the carbon monoxide levels inside the vehicle were five times the lethal limit.

The victims included Candace and her grandchildren: Liberty Coleman, four, Legacy Coleman, Storm Coleman, and Stone Coleman, aged three and two. While three of the children and their grandmother passed away on the scene or shortly after arrival at the hospital, Legacy was on life support but sadly succumbed on July 17. Authorities confirmed no foul play and treated the incident as a mechanical accident.

The impounded Ford Explorer underwent testing, revealing that toxic exhaust fumes filled the interior compartment when the engine ran while stationary. The children’s mother, Adriana Coleman, expressed profound grief over the loss, remembering her children for their vibrant personalities and love.

Toledo Fire Chief Allison Armstrong reported high carbon monoxide levels inside the vehicle during testing and emphasized the need for further investigation to prevent similar incidents. Officials extended condolences to the affected family and praised the swift response of first responders. Toledo’s Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz conveyed sympathy to the family and hoped for the recovery of the two children still fighting for their lives.
