The U.S. Embassy has refrained from commenting on the petition.
Meanwhile, some American career diplomats, like John Dinkelman, expressed concern over the diplomatic landscape under the Trump administration. Dinkelman, who headed the American Foreign Service Association, highlighted the essence of diplomacy as a means to foster mutual understanding rather than needlessly alienating host countries.
The trend of appointing controversial political ambassadors during the Trump era extends beyond Canada. Instances of strained diplomatic relations have arisen in various countries due to the conduct of U.S. ambassadors. The vacancy of key ambassadorial positions in several nations has also raised eyebrows, with about half of U.S. ambassador posts currently unfilled.
