The Canadian government has granted Flair Airlines $76 million in emergency assistance to help mitigate the impact of escalating jet fuel costs on airlines. Flair CEO Len Corrado emphasized the significance of this financial support, highlighting the government’s acknowledgment of the industry’s challenges and its commitment to fostering competitiveness.
The Canada Enterprise Emergency Funding Corp. is responsible for approving bailout loans aimed at addressing the surge in fuel expenses and improving the affordability of air travel. The loan provided to Flair Airlines must be repaid over a four-year period, with interest rates lower than the current market rates.
Following the onset of the Iran war in late February, Transat A.T. Inc., the parent company of Air Transat, has received $430 million in financial aid to alleviate the impact of heightened energy prices, which have caused jet fuel costs to nearly double compared to a year ago.
In addition to Flair Airlines, Porter Airlines has also recently obtained a $125-million bailout loan from the government to support its operations during these challenging times.
