“Brother’s Machete Attack Leaves Mother Severely Injured”

A mother recently suffered severe stab wounds in a brutal machete attack allegedly carried out by her own brother, who reportedly shouted, “why aren’t you dead yet?” during the assault. Ruben Altidore, the assailant, left his sister with a significant gash on her right hand, nearly severing multiple fingers. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, August 3, in Margate, located approximately 40 miles north of Miami, Florida.

Following the attack, Altidore, aged 36, was apprehended on the same day and appeared in court on Tuesday, facing charges of attempted felony murder, aggravated child abuse, and a probation violation. Witnesses reported that Altidore yelled during the assault, as detailed in an arrest report obtained by Florida news outlet, WPLG.

The victim managed to escape to a neighbor’s house for help after the attack. Luis Pereria, the neighbor, described how she sought assistance, stating, “She ran to the middle of the street and then ran to my front door where she was asking for help.” Doorbell camera footage captured the victim ringing the neighbor’s doorbell before collapsing on the ground.

Despite the mother sustaining serious injuries, her one-year-old child was unharmed but covered in blood. Police investigations revealed blood inside the residence and on a machete sheath; however, the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Altidore is currently detained in Broward County Main Jail as legal proceedings progress.
