The autopsy results of Bryan Kohberger’s victims in a tragic student house share attack have revealed that they experienced significant pain and suffering.
Autopsy records for the University of Idaho students, Madison Mogen, 21, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Ethan Chapin, 20, and Xana Kernodle, 20, were disclosed by the Ada County court, unveiling the harrowing final moments of the victims. The four individuals were fatally wounded by multiple sharp-force injuries while three of them were asleep around 4 am on November 13, 2022.
Kohberger, a criminology student, was sentenced to four consecutive life terms following his guilty plea to the murders. Authorities stated that Kohberger had visited the students’ residence several times before the tragic events.
The autopsy, performed by Dr. Veena Singh, the chief medical examiner in Spokane, indicated that all victims sustained injuries consistent with a “Ka-Bar Full Size US Marine Corps Fighting Knife,” believed to be the murder weapon. Additional wounds were observed, possibly caused by different parts of the weapon. Kaylee also suffered blunt-force injuries to her face and had an unknown object covering her mouth, as reported by the New York Post.
Xana, who was not in bed during the attack, suffered injuries to her arms and hands. A matching leather sheath to the blade was found in the bed shared by Kaylee and Madison.
Prosecutors revealed that Kohberger’s DNA was present on the sheath. Genetic evidence linked to Kohberger was discovered, as he attended classes approximately 10 miles away from the students’ shared residence.
Kohberger was apprehended at his parents’ residence in Pennsylvania on December 30, 2022. The autopsy report was publicized as the legal proceedings continued to disclose information about the case.
Kohberger was pursuing a Ph.D. in criminology at Washington State University, situated across state lines. He opted for a guilty plea to avoid the death penalty by firing squad.
Recently, previously unseen crime scene images from the murders, numbering in the thousands, were released by the Idaho State Police. These graphic photos depicted traces of struggle, blood on bed sheets, walls, furniture, and personal belongings. Following their brief public appearance, Ms. Goncalves’ mother, Kristi, expressed her sentiments on Facebook.
In a post on January 30, she wrote, “FU BK!!!!! I wish Steve (Kaylee’s father) could have one minute in that cell with him. One min, that’s all it would take.”
