Ann Widdecombe’s cherished cat has been found safe and sound after worries arose about its well-being following the suspected murder of the former Reform politician.
Widdecombe, aged 78, passed away last week in what authorities believe was a deliberate attack at her secluded residence in Haytor, Devon, where she resided with her feline companions. Counter Terror Police, who have taken charge of the investigation, mentioned that inquiries are ongoing subsequent to the apprehension of a 28-year-old white British man from Rotherham, South Yorkshire.
While awaiting further developments in the investigation, it has been disclosed that Ms. Widdecombe’s cat has been located in good health. Journalist Peter Cardwell shared on X, previously known as Twitter, earlier today, that the late political figure’s cat Aloysius was found alive and well. He noted that the small, ginger cat was swiftly removed from the scene after Ms. Widdecombe’s passing, allaying concerns for its safety.
According to information relayed by Cloud9 Management, the managers of Ms. Widdecombe, Aloysius is safe, receiving proper care, and the family will determine a long-term plan for the cat. It was assured that Aloysius, known for being bossy, is in good spirits.
Ann, an avid cat lover, had multiple feline companions throughout her life. She once featured Aloysius in a broadcast with Jeremy Vine, expressing concerns about the cat’s safety following plans to increase the population of birds of prey in the UK earlier this year.
Widdecombe’s affection for cats was well-known, as she considered her home incomplete without them. In 2002, she mentioned to the BBC her joy in having furry companions, Carruthers and Pugwash, after moving to a house with a garden.
In a separate interview in 2009, the former MEP shared her penchant for giving cats amusing names, emphasizing that their names were chosen without specific reasons.
CPT Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor confirmed that Widdecombe’s death was a targeted and brutal attack, refraining from speculating on a possible motive. He emphasized that all possibilities are being considered in the investigation and clarified that the incident has not been classified as a terrorist act.
While counter-terror police are leading the inquiry, the police chief stated that the alleged murder has not been linked to terrorism.
