The Met Office has issued amber weather alerts for intense heat on Monday in 71 regions nationwide, warning of potential power outages due to the scorching conditions.
The forecasters cautioned that the high temperatures could lead to failures in heat-sensitive systems and equipment, resulting in power cuts and disruptions to services for homes and businesses.
The weather warnings will be in effect from 1 am on Monday, June 22, until 11.59 pm on Tuesday, June 23. The Met Office highlighted the expected hot spell on Monday and Tuesday, which could have widespread impacts on people and infrastructure.
Meteorologists have revised their temperature forecasts, anticipating highs of 35C on Tuesday and Wednesday, with growing confidence that the UK’s June temperature record of 35.6C set in Southampton in 1976 could be exceeded.
