Adam Ramsay-Peaty clinched the bronze medal in the 50m breaststroke semifinals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games while Sam Williamson claimed victory.
Ramsay-Peaty faced a tough start but made a strong late push that fell short of securing another win. He finished with a time of 26.94, trailing the Australian winner by 0.44 seconds, who accomplished a remarkable double victory in Glasgow after dominating the 100m event.
Michael Houlie took the second spot with Ramsay-Peaty narrowly finishing third by a mere 0.01-second difference. Despite entering the race as the defending champion from four years ago in Birmingham, Ramsay-Peaty’s spirited entrance did not propel him to victory.
Having advanced to the final with a time of 26.82 seconds, Ramsay-Peaty came in second in his semifinal, trailing only South Africa’s Houlie.
This performance followed Ramsay-Peaty’s bronze medal win in the 100m breaststroke final over the weekend, where he entered as the fastest qualifier but was surpassed by Williamson and history-making swimmer Filip Nowacki from Jersey. His time of 59.65 seconds was slower than his semifinal swim and well off his personal best set seven years ago.
Expressing mixed emotions post-event, Ramsay-Peaty’s remarks sparked debate as he voiced feeling deserving of more recognition after returning to the sport following an extended break.
Ramsay-Peaty stated, “It required significant courage to make a comeback in the sport, so we should appreciate every achievement, although this conflicts with my competitive drive and aspirations. I believe I merit more. I understand that success in sports is not solely about entitlement or effort but about performance on the day. I am disappointed as I know I am capable of more. It’s a tough pill to swallow.”
