“Family Mourns Loss of ‘Truly Beautiful’ Music Tutor”

The family of a young British woman, believed to have been murdered in the United States, has described her as a “truly beautiful person” and “the gentlest soul.” Sonia Exelby’s parents have publicly shared their memories of the 32-year-old music tutor, highlighting her as “full of quiet love.”

Ms. Exelby was discovered deceased in Marion County, Florida, five days after disappearing from her residence in Portsmouth, Hampshire, UK. According to a filed affidavit in the US, it was revealed that the woman had been struggling with mental health issues, suicidal thoughts, and had intended to meet online individuals in the US who were willing to cause her harm.

Dwain Hall, a 53-year-old man from Marion County, is currently awaiting trial on charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping in connection with Ms. Exelby’s case. Despite the allegations, he denies any involvement in her death.

In a statement released through Hampshire Police, the family expressed their deep sorrow and remembered Sonia as a compassionate and talented individual. Hampshire Police mentioned that the tutor went missing from her Southsea home on October 12 and subsequently traveled to the US before her body was found. The authorities are collaborating with US officials and the FCDO to support the investigation.

The family’s heartfelt statement further reflects on Sonia’s upbringing, relationships with her loved ones, and the impact she had on those around her. They emphasize her loving nature, musical talents, and the void her absence has left in their lives. They cherish her memory and express everlasting love for Sonia, stressing the importance of remembering the life she lived beyond the challenges she faced.
