Defending champions Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson emerged victorious with a 2-0 win at the Montreal Elite stop of the FIVB Beach Pro Tour on Friday. The Toronto pair clinched the victory by defeating Brazil’s Thamela Coradello Galil and Victoria Lopes Pereira Tosta 21-13, 21-18 in Pool A action. The upcoming schedule includes the Round of 12 and quarterfinals on Saturday, followed by the semifinals and medal matches on Sunday.
Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson aim to secure their third Montreal title, having previously won in 2023 and 2025, with no event held in 2024.
In other matches, Canadian athletes Marie-Alex Bélanger and Lea Monkhouse faced a defeat against the U.S. duo Donlin and Denaburg (21-10, 21-17) and are set to compete against Shaw and Phillips later on Friday. On the men’s side, Cameron Chadwick of Barrie, Ont., and Steven Abrams of Georgetown, Ont., suffered a loss to the U.S. team of Taylor Crabb and Andy Benesh with a score of 2-1 (23-21, 21-18, 15-12).
Later on Friday, Sam Schachter and Jonny Pickett are scheduled to play against Brazil’s Andre Loyola Stein and Renato Andrew Lima de Carvalho.
