The heaviest downpours are forecasted for parts of northern England on Sunday, extending to the East of England later in the day. Showers are also expected in other areas, including the Midlands. The upcoming rain comes as a relief following a notably dry July and June, with over 18 million people facing a hosepipe ban.
The Met Office describes these weather extremes as the “new normal,” highlighting the trend of increasing temperatures. The unsettled weather is expected to persist into the following week, with rain anticipated on Monday, particularly heavy in northwest Scotland. Temperatures are not likely to rise to the levels seen earlier, with highs of 31.3C in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, and 30.8C in Usk, Monmouthshire, on Friday.
Looking ahead, the national weather service predicts a changeable period, alternating between sunny spells and rain across many areas. While northwestern regions may experience more rainfall, southeastern areas could also see showers. There are indications that high pressure may return, bringing dry conditions, especially in the south.

Wednesday will see continued cloudiness and cooler temperatures in the far north, while the rest of the country enjoys dry and sunny weather. The outlook from Thursday to Saturday suggests settled conditions with some cloud and showers in the north, while the south remains very warm.
As the weekend approaches, widespread rain is predicted to move into the northern regions on Saturday, maintaining the trend of varied weather conditions across the UK.
