A Sydney childcare worker is facing 329 charges for allegedly abusing 136 children at various daycare centers over a 16-year span from 2009 to 2025. The accused individual, Hamish Tait, was first arrested in July last year, prompting shock and disgust among parents.
On July 13, the police obtained a court order to reveal Tait’s identity in an effort to identify more victims. Currently, the 35-year-old suspect is in custody facing charges that include producing child abuse material and filming private acts without consent.
Australian Federal Police have been in contact with 121 affected families but are still working to identify 22 additional victims. Tait had connections to over 55 early childhood education facilities in Sydney, primarily in the city’s north-west, where the alleged abuse took place at five centers, including his own business, Wild Earthlings Glenorie.
As part of the investigation, the police have published a website listing the centers where Tait worked to assist affected families. Acting Commander Luke Needham of the Australian Federal Police emphasized the severity of child sexual abuse and the betrayal of trust involved.
Efforts to identify victims have been extensive, with the release of images of distinctive clothing worn by the suspect at a childcare center in 2023. Following the disclosure of Tait’s identity and the list of centers, parents have expressed panic and concern.
Kid Fitz Learning Centres, where Tait was employed, issued a statement expressing regret for any pain caused to past families and carers. The statement acknowledged the profound betrayal of trust and emphasized the commitment to child safety.
Tait’s charges also include aggravated use of a child under 14 for producing child abuse material and sexually touching a child under 10. His association with illegal online activities was discovered in June, leading to the seizure of electronic devices containing millions of files, including alleged child abuse material.
